Back

From 1924 to today, IFA Berlin is the opportunity to join its tech legacy matching design with the latest in AI, connectivity, mobility, and sustainable living."

Brief history and background:

IFA is the leading exhibition for consumer electronics and home tech for prime retailers, buyers, distributors, journalists, and experts from tech-enabled industries. Between its history and today's trends, keeping stand design on trend increases the likelihood of creating that viral brand moment.

The first edition was on 4th December 1924 as the Internationaler Funkausstellung Berlin (Berlin Radio Show). The event has since debuted landmark inventions such as the color TV, compact audio cassette, and the first cassette recorder. In the initial year, the event attracted 18,000 visitors, 242 exhibitors, and was organized in an area of 7,000 square meters. Its' popularity drew renowned inventors and scientists, and Albert Einstein even opened the event in 1930.

Recent additions have drawn as many as 240,000 visitors and 150,000 square meters of exhibition area each year. The year 2019 witnessed IFA operating at a packed capacity with 1900 exhibitors exhibiting their newest products and services on an area of 160,000 square meters.

Exhibition themes and trends to expect:

We see our clients and partners constantly under pressure to optimize visitor experience. Tech focused shows like MobileWorld Congress and IFA stand out with some of the highest expectations. AI tech is naturally at center stage from voice assistants and smart cameras to AI-powered appliances. The speed of iterative technology makes storytelling and stand design ever more crucial to quickly build context for product offerings.

Expect live demos highlighted by sharp stand design with key design features such as recessed lighting, angled structures, and highly integrated video content to focus attention on functionality like on-device learning, predictive features, and intelligent automations.

In the Smart Home zone, technology offerings are at the heart of aspirational living. The stand designs that will connect with visitors offer an aspect of living that instantly connects. Think plush and minimalistic furniture, and serene room settings to highlight interconnected thermostats, cameras, lighting, and energy solutions. Clever exhibitors will maximize the impact of their budget by not over designing an experience, but laser focusing on what aspect of home wellness their product enhances.

For more comprehensive connectivity solutions, A/V media and graphics will be primary brand vectors. 5G, satellite and multi-platform syncing will be woven throughout exhibit messaging to create an all-encompassing visitor sensation. Expect the best seamless device ecosystems containing mobile devices, wearables, and IoT promoted with elaborate ceiling elements.
